Have Happy Holidays with the Elements
Dear Ask Vicki Readers:
I’ve received multiple questions regarding how best to handle a Water, Earth, Fire, Wood, or Metal during the holidays. To address this, here’s my quickie guide regarding what you should and should not expect from each elemental personality this holiday season.
Waters: First and foremost, remember we are all in yin time right now, which is Water time. This energy of going inside sets the tone for Waters’ lives, so don’t expect your Waters to suddenly turn into little Fires just because it’s the holidays. Waters will probably participate in all the significant events (although you may need to coax a bit), but remember they will still need alone time. Waters will appreciate an emphasis on the meaning of the season, too. Be gentle with them and remember that if things get too intense, they will float away to a quiet cove for a while. Let them. The miracles of Christmas and Hanukkah sit in Water.Woods: The Woods in your life will probably approach the holidays as if planning the Normandy landing. There will be lists of gifts, deadlines for mailings, calendars of events, etc. This makes them feel like the holidays are not the chaotic time they fear, so let them manage their time in whatever way gives them comfort. And if you want them to attend holiday events, give them a job to do at the party. This will make them happy and at ease. To make the journey to Bethlehem, the Three Wise Men were probably Woods.
Fires: If you have Fires in your life, the holidays are likely to be a joyously, lively time. Parties will be fun, spontaneity will abound, and everything will be marvelous. Give them the space to be thrilled, but remember that they will appreciate a bit of help with boundaries and planning. If you do, your Fires will light up the holidays without burning out themselves (or you). Mr. Fezziwig from Dickens’ A Christmas Carol was a Fire (with Earth).
Earths: The holiday season was made for Earths! It’s all about getting together with family and friends, giving gifts to those you love (or even just like), and food, food, food! Let your Earths express their love, but keep them from overwhelm by reminding them that everything does not need to be perfect and other people can help. Santa Claus is definitely an Earth (and he has lots of help).
Metals: I honestly had one woman write in and ask if the Grinch was a Metal like her husband! Actually, I think the Grinch was an out of balance Wood; he was pretty proactive. But, no matter. During the holidays, the Metals in your life might need a little help getting into the holiday spirit; frivolity can seem like such a waste of time to them. However, they are very kind people who bring wisdom to any gathering, so cajole them into attending and everyone (including the Metal) will be glad they did. Also, if you can manage to include a bit of relevance and history as part of the celebrations, the Metals will be happy.
May your holidays be a time of great joy and blessings for all!
