The Power of Power
Dear Readers:
Power has been a hot topic in our world lately. Who has it? Who abuses it? Can it transfer? Does it go away? Is it good? Is it bad? And really, what does it mean? A quick answer to that last question can be found in Webster’s dictionary where, as a noun, the definitions of power include (but are not limited to):
The ability to act or produce an effect
The possession of control, authority, or influence over others
Physical might
It won’t surprise you to know that in the world of the Five Elements personalities, I view power somewhat differently. To me, an elemental personality’s power is the core of what they contribute to the various “wholes” of which they are a part. That whole can be a family, a workplace, a community, a country, or even just the whole of their expression as a person. Further, I believe that within each power sits a gift that each specific elemental personality automatically offers when needed.
To honor the ongoing discussion of power these days, I would like to review my perception of the powers and gifts each elemental personality possesses. And remember, since we all have all of the elemental personalities in our energetic make-up, technically we all have access to each of these powers and gifts every day. That, in itself, should help you feel powerful!
So, without further ado, here is a brief summary of the power (and gift) of each elemental personality:
The power of potential is claimed by Water personalities and their gift is imagination. This means the sky’s the limit for Water people. They aren’t held back by logic or mechanics, so can dream up anything anytime they want. Creativity sits in the Water element for this reason.
The power of action is claimed by Wood personalities and their gift is initiative. This means Wood people usually see their way around any barrier. Once they decide on a course of action, they really can make things happen. Manifestation sits in the Wood element for this reason.
The power of fully actualized potential is claimed by Fire personalities and their gift is inspiration. This means Fire people embrace the reality of “now.” They can enthusiastically acknowledge and enjoy the present moment and inspire others to do the same. Celebration sits in the Fire element for this reason.
The power of transition is claimed by Earth personalities and their gift is balance. This means Earth people love to offer assistance. They willingly support anyone or anything adjusting to shifts and help maintain overall balance in the process. Change sits in Earth for this reason.
The power of completion is claimed by Metal personalities and their gift is discernment. This means Metal people have “finished the book,” so to speak, and know the meaning and implication of the story’s end. Metal people are usually very happy to share this information as well as the best way to use it. Synthesis sits in Metal for this reason.
In truth, the powers and gifts of your primary elemental personality will always be the easiest for you to access on a regular basis. In fact, you probably already use them daily without even thinking about it. But the rest are there for you to grab, too, whenever you want. You may have to concentrate a bit more, but they are always there. To paraphrase Glinda the Good Witch from The Wizard of Oz: “You always have the power!”
Blessings to all,
Vicki
